The BNT documentary reveals the Taste of China — ancient, exotic, full of symbolism, combining a mix of cultural elements. This is a unique perspective on China and Chinese food which means more than simply a source of life for the Chinese. Chinese food is also connected to Chinese medicine, philosophy and art. The film presents the three main regional cuisines in China-Peking, Sichuan and Shanghai. For ages food has been part of the Chinese “soft” diplomacy. The film shows concrete examples and images from the Peking Duck Museum in Beijing. The film puts the focus on the “panda diplomacy” which along with food is part of the Chinese “soft” diplomacy. The panda symbolizes peace, friendship and Yin and Yang harmony. The Chinese cherish the words of the philosopher Confucius that food and friendship are the two most important things in life.

For the Chinese the Peking Duck, table tennis and the maotai liquor are the three great components of Chinese diplomacy. Peking Duck was included in the intangible cultural heritage list. The film presents the three main regional cuisines in China-Peking, Sichuan and Shanghai.
