“Odyssey” is a documentary about the creation of the most exciting and large-scale theatrical event in the program of “European Capital of Culture 2019”. In the film mutually comments on two plot lines: the theatrical process “Odyssey” and the perception of myths by modern people from the native land of Homer’s hero. In the magical Ithaca, the actor Konstantin Elenkov – performer of the role of Odysseus in the play, meets today’s Ithaca.

The emotional and personal conversation with the inhabitants of the island of different ages seeks answers to the questions: why this myth continues to excite peoples for so many millennia, what makes the “Odyssey” the most famous story of all time.

The theatrical process magically reproduces the vicissitudes of a real journey in which modern man seeks himself. “We were looking for the light that Odysseus followed. The journey to Penelope, to the love of his life, is the real journey to himself for Odysseus “- says the director of the performer – Diana Dobreva. The docuentary is an effort to create a memory of an extremely creative and important stage in the history of the Plovdiv Theater.
