Baroque is the art of staging, and no musical instrument represents this idea better than the harpsichord. It gathers the essence of music, painting and even sculpture.

More than a machine able to create sound, it is an artistic object by itself and can produce the greatest aesthetic delight even before it sounds.

“Sparked by a keyboard” explores the evolution of period keyboard instruments, from medieval clavisimbalum to the big, exquisite French harpsichords from the 18th century.

Ranging from the organological basis to the utterly personal regards on historically informed performance, the film includes some of the most renowned specialists of early music.
